REVIEW: Uncle Jack’s Original – All Natural Deodorant

I’ll admit it, I was a little worried when I first agreed to review Uncle Jack’s Original deodorant. I have always been torn about natural deodorant. It seems like a good idea. After all it’s something you smear on your arm pits every day. Shouldn’t it have good stuff in it? On the other hand, even one day of using failing deodorant can be a disaster in hot and humid Washington, DC.

When the deodorant arrived I was pleased right away with the packaging. It comes in a cute jar with a picture of a lumberjack on it. Maybe a lumberjack doesn’t want to be described this way, but it was adorable. The product also smelled great. Uncle Jack’s website says the scents are musk, sage, and sandalwood, but to me it smelled like a summer’s day.

Uncle Jack’s is a men’s deodorant, so I knew I would have to get my husband in on the product testing action. I didn’t feel right leaving him alone in a natural deodorant experiment however, so I joined him. We both decided to test it out on the day we marched in a city parade with our kids. It was warm that day, about 70 degrees, and we were in the sun for about 4 hours. We both came home tired and hot, and happy to see that Uncle Jack’s provided good coverage. I also tried it at work a few days, and it continued to work well.

My only complaint about the product has to do with the application. Since it comes in a jar, you are told to remove a pea sized portion and apply it to each under arm. I found the consistency made it a little tough to remove from the jar, and I was left with deodorant all over my fingers. This isn’t the end of the world, and wouldn’t stop me from buying the product again. However, if you love your deodorant applicator, this might be a show stopper for you.

My husband and I are both really pleased with this product so far, and really look forward to trying it on some mountains this summer!

Note: Uncle Jack’s provided me with a product to test in exchange for an honest review.
