Mount Sunflower is a fantastic drive-up highpoint.  For starters, you’re greeted with a TEN FOOT tall iron sunflower, which I understand to be made of railroad spikes.  What a great way to embrace the spirit of the Highpoint’s name and, of course, the Kansas state flower.  A mailbox houses the highpoint register, which also seems to be a drop zone for business cards. Of course, I followed suit.  Finally, Mt. Sunflower offers a covered picnic table.  I highly recommend bringing lunch to enjoy here after what will most likely be a long drive.  This highpoint sits on private property, so please be respectful.  Sunflower does not offer bathrooms.

If you’re looking for a side trip from Mt. Sunflower take a look at Monument Rocks.  This rock formation is a nice change from farm land and flat roads.  Bring sunblock!
